Who Will Pay Duff £70k A Week?

It smacks of the penny-pinching we endured when Ossie Ardiles took over from Jim Smith after we slumped down the old Second Division following the disaster in the play-offs against the Mackems.

Ossie took stick for his year at St James' Park but he was told to off-load the big earners like Roy Aitken, Budgie Burridge, Mark McGhee, etc and then just given coppers to build a team.

He was only allowed to buy two players, and David Kelly and Franz Carr were class signings brought in from the bargain bucket.

Now we have billionaire Mike Ashley pulling the strings, and obviously KK has to try and off-load players who are on ridiculous wages ... but who is going to take them?

Amongst the club's highest earners at £70,000-per-week is Damien Duff. Sunderland and a couple of other clubs have tested the water, but with Duff's injury record ... who is going to cough up wages like that?

The Irish international has little future at the club with KK already putting out feelers for a winger, and I'm sure NUFC will happily take a loss on the £5m they paid Chelsea for the Dubliner.

Duff could end up making the short move to Sunderland, but only if he takes a cut in wages.
