Alan Pardew will NOT take up their option on the Borussia Monchangladbach striker Luuk de Jong - who has failed to score since joining on loan in January.
However, Sky Sports claim that the St James' Park side are ready to step up their interest in Germany Under-21 striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
The Hertha Berlin striker has spent the last 12 months on loan at Hamburg, where he has impressed with 12 goals in 19 games, which earned him a call-up to the full Germany squad.
The 22-year-old has just nine months left on his current deal and has thus far shunned Hertha's attempts to try and extend his contract at the Olympic Stadion.
His mother Kerstin Lasogga, who also acts as his advisor, said: "Pierre is under contract with Hertha Berlin.
"But those people who know Pierre in person are aware that playing in the English Premiership has always been one of his desires."
