Toon Legend: 'I'd Rather Run A Market Stall Than Manage Newcastle'

The former Belgian international has had plenty of offers of management and coaching jobs since quitting the game he loved in 2000, but opted to run a fruit and vegetable stall in his native country.

Albert: "It's always sad when a manager that is loved so much leaves.

"And to see Kevin go already is very sad - he is Mr Newcastle.

"He was my best manager during my career by a mile.

"It was sad enough the first time but the second time is even worse for the fans.

"He saved the club last season because they were going down before he came.

"And this season he made a great start even though he wasn't even managing his players.

"For the city to lose Kevin like this is a terrible thing.

"It is the reason why I did not go back into football because of the current mentality of owners of clubs and people in the game.

"It wasn't like this 10 to 15 years ago and I prefer to do something else.

"I wouldn't want to be in the game these days but that is the world of football now.

"Sir Bobby Robson has proved there is life after Keegan and even Kenny Dalglish did well to get us to second place when Kevin left the first time, we also got to the FA Cup final.

"But to lose Keegan they have lost a man who had roots to the area, that is important.

"If there was anybody to get the confidence from the players flowing.

"You would have taken Kevin over Dennis Wise every day because of his popularity with the fans.

"It's a sad day for Newcastle United."
