The FA Face Tough Choice To Back Either Beyer Of Styles!

And that leaves the Newcastle United right-back really sweating on Saturday's derby clash with Sunderland ... but it could see the FA demote Styles to a lower league.

As a result, Beye's fate now lies in the hands of the FA Regulatory Commission when it meets in London today.

The fact that United have had to appeal against the decision is a clear indication that Styles will not change his mind.

However, if the FA go against Styles, referees supremo Keith Hackett is set to raise the roof over the treatment of referees by TV.

Styles's future as a top flight referee is in doubt after he was sidelined for the weekend's fixtures.

He has been taken out of the firing line for the weekend's action, but rather than simply being dropped, Styles has been demoted to fourth official duty for the game between Chelsea and Liverpool on Sunday, with Howard Webb taking control of that match.

Styles will instead return to the middle in the Championship next week, when he takes charge of Bristol City v Sheffield United.

The Newcastle defender Habib Beye has protested his innocence.

Beye: "For me, that was the start of my season and I am devastated by the decision.

"I wouldn't have made the tackle if I didn't think I could have got the ball, and that's why I am so disappointed.

"It was my first game back for some time after my injury, and to be sent off so early is very disappointing."

"I know how big this game (against Sunderland) is to the supporters. Fingers crossed, it will be overturned.

"But for me, this was such a big game, not only for the fans who want us to win, but also for me personally because I would have been playing against one of my best friends in the game in Djibril Cisse."
