Ten to Go - Shearer wanted hat-trick

200 goal record still standing - for now
Our magnificent number nine was however left ruing earlier missed opportunities.

Speaking to the official club website Shearer said,

“I’m pleased with the two goals I scored, but I’d be even more pleased with the three.

“I probably missed the easiest chance of all when I was clean through in the first half.

“But I’ll take two and hopefully there will be a few more to come in
Europe before the season is over.”

Shearer has a minimum of thirteen games to
score ten goals to beat the record with a possible further four games if Newcastle were to progress to both cup finals.

My feeling is that Shearer will not stay on next season, regardless of having surpassed Milburn’s record or not.

Shearer now needs to better the goal every other game ratio that has become the benchmark by which all good strikers are judged. A benchmark that the former
England captain has more than broken throughout his illustrious career.
