Taylor Wants Gaffa To Stay!

Capello will recruit an Englishman to his Italian backroom staff (which the FA insist on) and Pearce's outstanding work with the Under-21 side has made him one of the favourites to step-up.

But Taylor, back in the squad after injury for today's clash with Derby, believes it would be damaging to England's chances of winning the 2009 European Under-21 Championship in Sweden if Pearce left.

Taylor: "It would be a blow for everyone connected with the England Under-21 setup if Stuart Pearce joined the senior backroom team.

"Pearce has transformed England into one of the best sides in Europe at this level and with him in charge there is a real feeling that we can go all the way this time.

"The players really believe in him and his coaching methods and we can improve on this summer's showing in Holland where we were only eliminated by the hosts and eventual winners on penalties.

"It would be a big chance for him and I can appreciate why he would want to work with Capello.

"But from a purely selfish perspective I hope he stays with the Under 21s and tries to win the European title."
