Striker going nowhere - summer move for Owen a possibility?

Reports today are suggesting Portsmouth are keen to keep striker Yakubu at Fratton Park until the summer ruling out a January move to St.James.

There had previously been talk of a £10 million double swoop for both Amdy Faye and Nigerian Yakubu but Portsmouth have since warned off the interest regarding Yakubu but given Newcastle the green light in our pursuit of midfielder Faye.

It now looks increasingly likely that the addition of a striker will not happen until the summer when a move for Yakubu, Michael Owen or Luis Boa Morte are all possibilities.

Come the summer however it may be the case that Graeme Souness is looking elsewhere in a bid to replace Alan Shearer and possibly Patrick Kluivert.

In my opinion, a summer approach for Michael Owen would be ideal. If Shearer were to retire to our coaching staff then Owen would no doubt be more likely to move to Tyneside given his respect for our current number nine.
