Souness rejected Kluivert approach - Star set to start in Holland

Still believes striker has a lot to offer
The Newcastle boss stated,

“Osasuna did come in for Patrick before the transfer window closed but we did not want to let him go.

“We know what he can do and I’m still confident we can get the best out of him, hopefully starting in
Holland on Thursday night.

“If he needed any incentive to do well it should be in front of his own folk.

The last comment from the Scot is possibly the most intriguing. It is no secret that Kluivert has failed to display boundless enthusiasm since his summer switch from
Barcelona.

That Souness has chosen to announce the rebuffed interest from Osasuna now is no doubt done so in the hope that his faith is rewarded in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.

Kluivert, who has saved his best in Black ‘n’ White for the European stage, will start on Thursday and will hopefully be eager to repay his manager’s confidence amid speculation surrounding the future of both at
St.James Park.
