How many times have Toon fans sat in a pub and started the question: "Name Newcastle's greatest XI", then see everyone struggle with No 1? Well ... not any more according to the Fat One. Freddy says Shay will reign supreme by the time he leaves Tyneside.
Freddy Shepherd: "We've had him since Kenny Dalglish brought him from Blackburn in 1997 and if he's not our best ever goalkeeper, I'm sure he will be by the time he leaves us. But that will be a long time ahead.
"He's still young for a goalkeeper and his best is yet to come.
"We've had some good keepers in our time, the likes of Jack Fairbrother and Ronnie Simpson from our FA Cup-winning sides of the 1950s. Then there was Willie McFaul from the Fairs Cup-winning team, but I have to say Shay's up there with them."
If Shay is the best ... who is the WORST Newcastle goalkeeper? Now there's a challenge for you.
