As Glenn Roeder said on SKY TV last night, Freddy Shephard has asked the Premier League for dispensation to allow the ex-Toon defender to take over as full-time manager.

It's a Catch 22 situation for Shepherd. A lot of fans have been hugely impressed with Roeder since he took over from Graeme Souness as caretaker boss in February, and although he promised a "big name", he believes the ex-West Ham boss deserves a chance.

We all know Roeder does not have the necessary UEFA Pro Licence, but he made a passionate plea on TV saying he was halfway through the course when he suffered his life-threatening illness.
