Shepherd Moves Into La Liga!

Shepherd (pictured left) left United when Mike Ashley gave him the asking price for the club, and he was allegedly told he was no longer welcome at St James' Park.

He threatened to bounce back and buy another club, and he had a meeting with Leeds United supremo Ken Bates, but it came to nothing.

He was rumoured to be interested in Hartlepool United, but again it did not materialise. As were efforts to take over Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday.

His interest Real Mallorca has come out of the blue, although it is well known he has a home on the Balearic island.

The La Liga club's president Vicenc Grande has put his 93 per cent shareholding up for sale with an initial asking price of 40m euros - £31.45m.

But he has warned an overseas buyer will have to pay a premium because he would prefer the club to remain under Spanish control.

Shepherd banked a reported £37m from the sale of his 29 per cent stake in Newcastle Mike Ashley a year ago.

Mallorca finished seventh in La Liga last season, just a point away from a UEFA Cup spot.

It is interesting to note Newcastle are finalising negotiations to play in a four-team tournament hosted by Real Mallorca in early August.
