Shearer Says The Magic Still Remains

Some feel moving to a new stadium has cost Arsenal the Premiership. Who knows (and as a Newcastle fan ... who cares?). But Shearer remains confident that England will qualify for the European Championships and insists the new Wembley has a part to play in helping them get there.

The Gunners have only just started to settle into the Emirates Stadium after leaving Highbury at the end of last season. But personally I don't think the same applies to England. After all, they tour the country to play matches and they haven't had a "home" since Wembley bit the dust, so surely it can only be good to have a stadium of their own.

Shearer: "I don't think anybody has that time to settle in now. It shouldn't have any effect but you never know. Everybody is looking forward to getting started at the stadium. I am still very confident that England will qualify. Four of the last five games are at Wembley against the so-called bigger nations - that will be the crunch time.

"It too early to say England are in trouble. It is the first time I've seen the new Wembley and I am very impressed. Everybody will be delighted with it.

"I've been in a lot of stadiums around the world but Wembley still has something about it. You still get a feel for the place even though it is brand new.

"I very much doubt there is many better. It really is magnificent and hopefully it will bring a lot of joy to a lot of people."
