Shearer Knows He's Missed His Newcastle Chance!

Shearer was offered the job by then-Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd when Glenn Roeder was set for the sack, but the ex-England skipper said the time was not right.

Sam Allardyce was appointed Newcastle boss and Shearer's 'open book' to the job was ended when Shepherd sold his shares in the club and went into semi-retirement.

Shepherd is famous for wanting a Geordie manager and eleven Geordie players, but new owner Mike Ashley is not as gullible. Ashley wants the BEST, and if Shearer wants the job in future he is going to have to try his luck elsewhere and PROVE he is the man for the job.

Shearer admits management interests him, but he still hasn't put a date on when he will make himself available.

Shearer: "I'm really enjoying my life and I am happy with my TV work, which is keeping me busy along with my golf.

"I would like to manage one day. If I got to 50 or 55 and I hadn't done it then it would be nagging away with me. I'll do it one day.

"I didn't say it would happen at Newcastle, that is the Press presuming things. Management does interest me, otherwise I wouldn't have done my coaching badges.

"I've just finished my A Licence, which was two years' hard work. But I don't know, I really couldn't tell you when I plan to go into management. I'm happy doing what I'm doing at the moment."
