Roeder To Swoop For Ameobi?

Roeder is already looking ahead to next season and wants to add strength to his squad in more ways than one.

The ex-Newcastle manager is looking into what players he can bring in next season and he says he wants them big, strong and athletic ... and Ameobi is top of his list.

The Canary's chief revealed he was firmly on the prowl for one, if not two, additional loan strikers as the goals - and, more crucially, the points - continued to elude his rebuilt side.

The 1-0 home defeat by Stoke City saw the Canaries slump back to 17th spot - just five points above the drop zone having taken just five points from the last 21 - and he is considering another phone call to Kevin Keegan.

Roeder: "The players I am looking at, apart from their ability, you want to know how athletic they are, how big they are.

"I know eventually what I want the squad to look like here.

"Watford - I can say what I want about their style of play, their approach and their brand of football - but it's winning games in the Championship. Go through their team the other night - power and pace.

"Size counts for so much - look at Portsmouth this year. Harry's (Redknapp) admitted it - he went to Portsmouth and the average height was 5ft 9in. The average height is about 6ft 3 now."
