Alan Pardew will hold talks with Shola Ameobi over his future at the end of the season – but the striker’s Newcastle United career will almost certainly come to an end at Anfield.

Alan Pardew: “I can only talk about the three years I’ve known this guy, and I can’t speak highly enough about him.

“Shola’s been magnificent as a person, and a great servant to this football club.

"Our fans shouldn’t forget that!

“Whether it’s his last game here, I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see in the summer.

“That’s something me, Shola and the board will look at.

“He’s been an absolutely magnificent servant for this football club.

“Whatever he does, he’ll be a massive success. That’s a real top, top guy.”

Shola Ameobi: “When I was thinking about the game, that was the perfect script in my mind.

“I never say never in this game because I don’t know what is going to happen next season, but it has been a fantastic 14 years for me here, and I’ve loved every minute.

“Yes, we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs over the years.

“But on the main I’ve been overwhelmed by the support, and everything that has come with playing for Newcastle United.”
