Michael Owen: "Yes, Switzerland goes a long way to healing a few wounds, but I don't think England fans will be fully believing in their team until we do something in a major tournament again.

"We always qualify. If we qualify without getting beaten - which we could easily do - and if you asked every England fan, 'Are we going to win the tournament now?', I think they would be sceptical.

"I think we need to go and put in a really good performance in a major tournament before everyone, the fans, start properly believing in the national team again.

"I think we have lost a bit of belief over the last four or five years."

"The players will be carrying a heavy burden after the results in Brazil.

"They're only human. When results aren't going their way they probably feel it more than anyone. They're in the 100-degree heat having to chase around. It's a painful experience, it can leave a scar on you.

"I think England need a good qualifying campaign and a big tournament."
