Roberts, who had only been on the field for a couple minutes, lunged at Given in injury time, and was seen involved in a row with Barron as the teams left the field.

"He caught Shay and we were worried for a while because we all know what happened at West Ham a couple of years ago.

"The funny thing is Jason Roberts's uncle is big Cyrille Regis, who is a big friend of mine from our time together at West Bromwich Albion in the early 1980s.
"But when one or two of their staff became involved after the game I had my say, and I make no apologies for sticking up for Shay because that's what we are doing for each other at the club at the moment."
