Newcastle United Confirm Martin Dubravka Will Miss Rest of the Month With Knee Injury

​Newcastle United have suffered their fair share of injury woes this season, but Steve Bruce's issues have worsened with the news that goalkeeper Martin Dubravka will miss the remainder

of the month with a knee injury.

The 31-year-old clashed with striker Danny Ings during the Magpies' 1-0 victory over Southampton, but despite being in clear discomfort, he played on to claim his ninth clean sheet of the season. 

But Dubravka was forced to leave the stadium on crutches, and the ​club has confirmed on Twitter that the Slovakian shot-stopper will be out of action for the remainder of the month - at least. 

Newcastle face Sheffield United in their next Premier League fixture, before entertaining ​Manchester City in a huge FA Cup quarter-final clash - a game which you need your best man between the sticks, you would imagine. 

Dubravka could also miss out on the Magpies trip to Bournemouth at the beginning of April, as Bruce's men aim to secure their top-flight status for another season.

He has been vital to ​Newcastle's survival hopes this year, and the 1-0 victory over Saints on Saturday has helped his side take a huge step towards safety. The three points puts the Magpies on 35 points, eight ahead of the struggling Cherries. 

Dubravka has featured in every Premier League match since making his debut against Manchester United in February 2018, and has been a consistent performer throughout his time on Tyneside. 

Second-choice goalkeeper Karl Darlow is likely to fill the gloves of Dubravka until he completes his recovery. 

It's not all doom and gloom for the Magpies, however, as Newcastle took up the option to extend defender Federico Fernandez's contract by an extra year, keeping the Argentine at St James' Park until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Fernandez has featured 23 times for Newcastle this season, scoring twice for the goal-shy Magpies.
