Newcastle Only Prepared to Sell Dwight Gayle for 'Irresistible' Offer

Newcastle United are reportedly willing to let Dwight Gayle leave in the January transfer window, but two demands have to be met before they part ways with the striker.

Gayle has been starved of game time for the Magpies this season, featuring in just seven Premier League games so far.

The former Crystal Palace man finds himself behind Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Andy Carroll in the St James' Park pecking order.

According to a report in the Evening Chronicle, despite Gayle's lack of playing time, Newcastle will only listen to bids in excess of £15m for the 29-year-old.

A host of Championship clubs are believed to be interested in signing Gayle in order to boost their promotion push.

The forward has a proven goalscoring record in the Championship, having hit 24 goals while on loan at West Brom last season. Gayle was similarly influential at that level during the 2016/17 campaign, as he found the net 23 times to help Newcastle seal a swift return to the top flight.

Table-topping West Brom are rumoured to have their eye on taking Gayle back on a permanent deal, while playoff hopefuls Nottingham Forest and Fulham are also keeping tabs on the Newcastle forward.

Purchasing the former Peterborough man will be a real financial commitment for any Championship outfit. In addition to the lofty transfer fee, Gayle will likely command a high wage package given that, at 29, this could be his last big contract. The striker also has 18 months remaining on his Newcastle deal.

Even if a Championship club can match Newcastle's asking price and Gayle's wage demands, the Magpies will not let the forward depart unless they have a replacement lined up.

The report states that Newcastle been offered some interesting loan options, while chief scout Steve Nickson has been eying up a selection of potential permanent signings.
