Newcastle Eye Move for Ex-Everton Man Ademola Lookman to Bolster Attacking Options

Newcastle United are eyeing a move for ex-Everton forward Ademola Lookman in the January transfer window, with the 22-year-old ready to leave Bundesliga side RB Leipzig after only six months at the club.

Steve Bruce is desperate to bring in some attacking reinforcements over the next few weeks, and a move for the former Toffees' star could relieve the pressure on the team's misfiring strikers.

Sky Sports understands that Newcastle may attempt to bring Lookman to St. James' Park on an initial loan deal, before making a decision on any long-term investment in the out-of-favour Leipzig star.

The Magpies are sitting in 13th place in the Premier League table, and they have amassed a measly total of 20 goals in 21 matches this season.

Lookman rejoined Leipzig in the summer, following an impressive loan spell in the 2017/18 campaign, but his second stint at the club has been far less successful.

The ex-Charlton forward scored five goals in 11 games for Leipzig during his initial stint in Germany, and his excellent progress convinced them to sign the youngster on a permanent deal 12 months later.

Lookman has struggled for first-team opportunities this season however, and the arrival of Roma striker Patrik Schick has pushed him even further down the pecking order. The young forward has managed only three appearances since his return to the club, and he has failed to score in any of those showings.

Leipzig are leading the title race at the top of the Bundesliga this season, and they possess one of the division's most lethal strikers in Timo Werner. The German international has scored 18 goals in 17 matches, which has further limited Lookman's chances of breaking into the first team.

The former Everton star also struggled during his spell in the Premier League, bagging only one goal in his 36 appearances for the club.
