Milner Waits For The Cap That Matters

Sam Allardyce: "I hope it's on ongoing escalation to a full England cap.

"James Milner's improvement since his early days at Leeds United has been very good and very steady progress.

"Somebody who has the attitude he has is only destined for more and more success as he gets older and more experienced.

"This lad has got everything in the drawer and he is improving day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year.

"At his under-21 age now, the Premier League experience he has gained in that period of time means there is a very bright future ahead of him.

"I cannot see any reason why he cannot be very, very successful at Newcastle United and put a lot of pressure on Steve McClaren to select him in an England XI sooner or later - and as a left-hand sider, which appears to have been a huge problem for England over the last few years.

"I do not want to put too much pressure on the lad because he is perhaps not quite ready yet, but if he carries on the way he is, I cannot see it being too long before he does get the opportunity to move one up."
