Martins is now preparing to go into international exile after Nigerian FA officials outlined their determination to punish the Newcastle striker for a `gross act of indiscipline' for missing the match at Brentford's Griffin Park.

Apparently the NFA are unsympathetic to the player's family problems.

NFA boss Sani Lulu (no relation to the Scottish singer): "We have issued him with a seven-day ultimatum to defend his gross act of indiscipline. He had several days to decide on being with his mother and, instead of informing coach Austin Eguavoen, he left everyone waiting.

"Even if we have to consider his action on compassionate grounds, he will still serve a severe punishment for a total lack of respect. Hopefully his punishment will serve as a deterrent to others."

The NFA have also threatened to take the matter to FIFA with a view to seeking a club suspension.
