Talking on Sky Sports, the ex-Celtic man said Alan Shearer was wrong to suggest Newcastle were "too good to go down".

Nicholas: "Alan is wrong. How can he possibly say Newcastle are too good to go down?

"Along with Derby County ... and perhaps Fulham ... Newcastle, on current form, are the worst side in the league.

"Of course they can go down.

"Why Kevin Keegan appointed Michael Owen as skipper is beyond me. It really is.
