Magpies Plough Ahead with New Pitch

It may be all-quiet during the close season, but ground staff at St James’ Park are keeping themselves relaying the new pitch.

The final phase of the new phase of the new pitch, is due to finish shortly before July 23, where Newcastle begin their long journey to Europe via the backdoor of the Inter-Toto cup. The foundations were laid in the close season of 2004 where undersoil heating and new drainage systems were put in place.

Facilities manager Eddie Rutherford exclaimed, “The new pitch will enable the surface to remain dry even in the north east winter…” However whether it stops sloppy defending and poor marksmanship remains to be seen.
