Adam Armstrong is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Alan Shearer at Ewood Park - and become a favourite with fans.

But I think we all know this loan spell is a window for a lower league club to sign him.

But it has been a long struggle for the striker to break into Newcastle's first team.

Armstrong had spent the first half of the season with Bolton Wanderers but quit the Sky Bet Championship side after being played on the left-wing rather than his preferred position of striker.

Speaking to Blackburn’s official website via ifollow, Armstrong said: “We all know how well Alan Shearer did here.

“He’s a legend at both Blackburn and Newcastle .

“His goals speak for themselves, really.

“I used to watch him quite a lot.

“He’s one I always looked up to growing up, playing football and the way he conducted himself off the pitch as well.

“He’s every boy’s local hero.

“He did well for Newcastle and he’s a legend here which makes things better as well.

“I hope I can score goals here like he used to.”

Rovers are hoping to win promotion from League One back to the Championship as Armstrong eyes a promotion to add to his CV.
