Keegan says that his first mission is racking up enough points to stay away from the bottom three.

Keegan: "When I took the job and started to look where we were, I didn't think we were safe. That is the truth because you know you need a certain amount of points and we have not got them yet.

"First of all we have to get enough points to be safe, that's the first priority and we've got tough fixtures. I knew that when I took over.

"We're just on the edge of it and we've got to make sure we don't get sucked into it, we've got some tough games away from home against teams in the top six and we need to get points.

"Manchester United at home, we've still got to go to Liverpool and Everton and we've got a tough home game against Sunderland, which as we saw against Boro, won't be easy.

"We have to stabilise the club and then start looking forward and, if we can do that and give the fans hope, it's going to get better.

"You have to be realistic and say that at the moment, we have to get results to let us look up and not down.

"I think it's just the timing of it that has been really unlucky. It is a case of new manager wants to try new things, see new players."
