He was kicked out of Newcastle when Sam Allardyce could take no more of the ex-Chelsea defenders mysterous injuries, and he signed for David Beckham's club Galaxy.

Becks welcomed him to the club.

David Beckham: "I think it's great. Celestine's not just a good person but a great player. I've played against him many a time and we've kicked each other many a time. He's an experienced player. He's a very good player, a player who has played in one of the biggest leagues in the world, so he's a good addition."

But Galaxy Coach Ruud Gullit this week gave him 45 minutes in the 2-1 victory over Seoul FC in South Korea where Babayaro was booked and gave Seoul a penalty with a rash challenge.

Not a man to suffer fools, Gullitt handed Babayaro his cards.

Alexi Lalas (president and general manager): "After a period of evaluation, it was decided that it would be in the best interest of the club and the player to part ways.

"It is unfortunate that it did not work out, but Ruud and our technical staff are hard at work putting together this team and difficult decisions have to be made."
