Bob Moncur: "Another week has dragged by and another week of no progress on the sale front.

"And despite the fact that Newcastle United's pre-season is now under way following their trip to Dublin last week, I still can't see why any fans have reason to get excited by any of it.

"In fact, by the time Leeds United arrive for a friendly in two weeks' time there is every chance that St James's Park could look deserted if things aren't sorted in a positive way.

"Where will it all end?

"I'm just the same as the fans at the end of the day and I get the daft text messages and e-mails about takeovers, and until you hear something concrete you learn over the years not to get too excited.

"Players have enough pressure on them without getting involved with boardroom politics, and it is the worst possible scenario for everybody connected with the club.

"And it's alarming to hear them speak as, due to the fact they are classed as insiders, they know exactly where the bodies are buried.

"Throw in the fact that we have lost players such as James Milner, Shay Given, Charles N'Zogbia and skipper Michael Owen, and it's worrying.

"Now we hear they could be joined by Habib Beye and Steven Taylor. It will get to a stage where the crisis worsens, that's why the sooner that Newcastle can get their act together the better."
