Dyer Returns To Where He First Started

The England manager put the Newcastle midfielder at right-back in training on Monday, and he would certainly be taking a chance.

You can get away with it in a low profile match against Luxembourg, using a winger as an adventurous full-back on the flank when you know your back-line won't be pressed. But in a match that could cost the manager his job?

McClaren is determined to go for all-out attack in Tallinn as England are fourth in Group E, five points behind leaders Croatia. That has prompted the experiment with Dyer. Well I say "experiment" when some would question the manager's sanity.

McClaren has major problems, with doubts over John Terry, (hamstring) and Ledley King, who is short of match fitness.

Wayne Bridge could replace Nicky Shorey at left-back, with Peter Crouch in for Alan Smith.
