Dyer doubt for Blackburn

The midfielder, injured on international duty with England, is now rated as extremely doubtful for Saturday’s trip to Blackburn. Hugo Viana and Jermaine Jenas will fight for Dyer’s central midfield role.

Andy O’Brien is also a doubt after pulling out of the Ireland team to face Switzerland. But the defender has had intensive treatment on his hamstring injury all week and is given a 50-50 chance of facing Rovers. Titus Bramble stands by to replace O’Brien after producing two impressive performances for England Under-21s.

No other injury worries at the moment but Shay Given, Nikos Dabizas, Aaron Hughes, Hugo Viana, Gary Speed and Craig Bellamy are all in international action tonight.

Blackburn’s Newcastle supporting forward, Matt Jansen made his first appearance since being involved in a serious motorcycle accident during the summer last night. He scored in Rovers 2-2 reserve draw with Everton.

Saturday will probably prove to be too soon for Jansen to make his first team comeback.
