Do Fan Protests EVER Work?

We've had our moments since Mike Ashley took charge, and made life very uncomfortable for him and his side-kick Derek Llambias.

But, at the end of the day, Ashley has continued to do what the hell he wanted to, with no regard for anyone but himself.

Kevin Keegan walked the walk; crowd favourite Chris Hughton was pushed out; the more "vocal" of the squad Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton were booted out; the stadium has a name change; and new rules have been brought out as regards the sale of away tickets.

None of this the majority of Toon fans wanted ... but what can we do?

Is Ashley any more popular than he was? Does he give f***?

Probably "no" to both of those questions. But we are close to playing in the Champions League so perhaps that "majority" was wrong after all.

There has been trouble at Ewood Park, and we wrote on this website back in November: "We feel for Blackburn Rovers fans because I'm sure 90% of neutral fans KNOW that they will be relegated under Blackburn manager Steve Kean!"

The Blackburn board refused to listen to their supporters, and it looks as though they will be playing Championship football next season.

Now Keane hopes protesting fans restrict their anger to outside Ewood Park for Saturday's crunch Premier League clash with Norwich.

Rovers are second bottom of the table having lost their last five games, conceding 13 goals, and are three points from safety with four games remaining.

Disgruntled supporters are to take to the streets again before the match to vent their spleen on owners Venky's and their boss.

Kean has been subject to almost constant criticism from a section of the Rovers support this season.

Kean: "I hope that the protest is small. The fans inside the ground of late have been excellent and the travelling fans have been very good.

"We have a young team that has certainly performed better when the atmosphere has been hostile towards the opposition and I am hopeful that they will continue to support us.

"We have a focus and that is on breaking the sequence that we are in, making sure we can get a good start in the game and I am very confident that we can get a result this week.

"I have a contract that runs beyond this season.

"Let's get this season taken care of, make sure that we are in the division and I'm hopeful we can move things on."
