To be honest ... does ANYONE listen to a word he says?

It has been another week of players licking their wounds after a sixth successive defeat in the Premier League.

If they fail to win, Carver could be lumbered with the worst record of any manager at Newcastle since 1977, back then Richard Dinnis took charge a team that lost seven on the trot.

Only Daryl Janmaat and Jack Colback faced the media after the 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, others were in no mood to explain why they folded for the sixth time in a row.

Now though, Carver wants to see his players put things right and win their first game since February.

Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “It’s not a nice record is it?

“But the time of us talking about what we are going to do is over.

“We now have to produce the goods on the pitch.

“I know a lot of players who have gone the record saying we will do this or that.

“But actions speak louder than words. Now is the time.

“It has been a great training ground to be on, especially with the sunshine. But everybody is ready to go. I don’t want to talk too much about, it’s cheap to talk.

“We have to prove it on the pitch.”

Newcastle have lost 23 of their last 51 games at St James’ Park and Carver wants the crowd behind his team again. The Newcastle head coach said: “I’ve got to say, we talked after the game last week. I genuinely thought at the time that the protest wouldn’t make any difference.

“It shouldn’t but I didn’t want to use it as an excuse. It affected me slightly. It certainly affected some of the players.

“At least people are coming in the stadium. If it’s a protest for one minute then at least we have another 89 to get on with the game. Again, I don’t have a problem with protests but at least people are coming in the stadium now.”

Newcastle fans who are coming to the stadium plan to stand up to Mike Ashley in the 34th minute to make their disappointments known to the owner.
