Newcastle United are set to field Hatem Ben Arfa at Darlington for the first time since his horror injury last October when he sustained a double leg break at Manchester City following a shocking tackle from Nigel De Jong.

John Carver: “There is no reason why Hatem cannot play at Darlington.

“He has looked good in training tand has joined in all of the sessions.”

Alan Pardew: “He can make a lot of impact here this season.

“It is not just about Hatem of course – there are a lot of good players here.

“In fact, we have a lot of options in each position and that’s what any manager wants.

“It creates competition for places having Hatem back.

“The greater difficulty I have in selecting my team the better.

“It is a selection problem, but it is a problem I want.

“It is a very nice problem to have.”
