Beardo returns to help reverse academy failings

Having written an article yesterday highlighting the lack of potential amongst our reserve team, it is interesting to note that Peter Beardsley has returned to the academy.

He joins up once more with ex-Mag Kenny Wharton with John Carver acting as Academy Director.

Today also sees the appointment of Ray Clarke as chief scout having left his position at Southampton to replace Charlie Woods.

With two new appointments geared towards the recruitment and development of new talent then we will hopefully witness not only the acquisition of some quality proven players, but also the discovery and progression of younger talent into potential first team stars.

Not since the emergence of Shola Ameobi have we seen a youth player make the step up to the first team, it is high time we produced a Wright-Phillips or a Wayne Rooney of our own.
