Allan Saint-Maximin 'Frustrated' With Newcastle Silence on Improved Contract

Allan Saint-Maximin is said to have become irritated with not being offered an improved contract by Newcastle.

The Frenchman signed a six-year deal with Newcastle last summer and, after a slow start, has been one of their brightest sparks as the season has progressed, developing into one of the Premier League's most exciting wingers.

His form has improved significantly since football resumed following the three-month lockdown, providing three assists in Newcastle's 4-1 win at Bournemouth.

However, radio silence from the club is said to have frustrated Saint-Maximin, according to the Daily Mail. The report states he's become frustrated with the fact that he is one of the lowest earners at the club despite arguably being their best player.

Saint-Maximin currently earns £36,000 a week, a wage much smaller than many of his teammates, some of whom don't feature nearly as regularly as the 23-year-old.

He hoped that his performances would've resulted in improved terms being offered by now, but the club's impending Saudi takeover has left a lot of proceedings in limbo at St James' Park.

Newcastle are significantly stronger with their French winger in the team than without, too. Steve Bruce's side have won just one match from 14 when Saint-Maximin hasn't featured. When he has, they've picked up ten wins from 14 games.

Signing for just £16m from Nice last summer, he arrived with a lot of raw talent that seemed to be going to waste in the North East earlier in the season. Newcastle's lack of strength in attack left the likes of himself, Joelinton and Miguel Almiron without much support, but his output has improved drastically in recent weeks.

Saint-Maximin has looked a different player since the restart, adding strength and a more consistent end product to his already exciting arsenal of blistering pace and tricky footwork.
