Probably best known for his chip against Manchester United in the famous 5-0 win in 1996, he joined Newcastle in 1994 from Anderlecht and made a total of 138 appearances, scoring 12 goals, before returning to Belgium with  Charleroi.
Philippe Albert: "Michael Owen was a great signing. He will go on and get a lot of goals for Newcastle. It was a big step forward for the club. I remember playing against him. He is fantastic.
"I follow Newcastle's results all of the time in Belgium and I think they can only get better now. Maybe they can challenge again for the Premiership but it may take two or three seasons.
"Eventually Owen can help Newcastle push on and get closer to the title but it may take a couple of seasons. When I was here we did come close to winning it but it wasn't to be in the end. A club like this cannot be finishing out of the top five. It is too big for that. No other club brings in the fans like Newcastle. They should be in Europe every season. I think they can still get up there this season. Once Owen gets fully settled in the team can do very well. I have fantastic memories of being here as a player. They were the best days of my life."
