A Return To Merseyside For Owen? The Blue Side!

Benitez said after the West Ham match: "Robbie Keane, when he came off, was disappointed. But players always want to be out on the pitch for 90 minutes, but we were thinking of different solutions and David Ngog did well.

"We will have Fernando Torres back soon, and I can assure everyone that clearly we are not going for Michael Owen. Clearly."

Which could be good news for Everton manager David Moyes, who knows Owen would prefer a move back to Merseyside.

He is preparing to launch an approach to take Owen on loan to Everton. T

Owen is in the last year of his contract at Newcastle and, if his performance at Middlesbrough is anything to go by, he is ready to run down his contract and seek a move in May.

Following Yakubu's shocking injury against Tottenham on Sunday, Moyes could offer Newcastle a similar deal that Sir Bobby Robson took for Lomanu Lua Lua several years ago.

An amount up front, and Everton pay Owen's £108,000 per-week wages.

Moyes: "I will try to see what is available.

"The club gives us all the money they can. But as most people know, there are not big cash reserves - so we'll have to do what we can."

Joe Kinnear has tried to get Mike Ashley to sign Owen on a long-term deal, but the owner has (so far) made no offer of a new contract.
