Signing in January?
Southampton's Wayne Bridge is the man in question, but we may have to compete with Liverpool for his signature.

Despite Saints' chairman Rupert Lowe saying that Bridge is not for sale, it is believed that Southampton would accept a bid of £9million. And Sir Bobby is at the head of the queue.

The south coast club look to be in serious danger of relegation again and having seen the financial problems at relegated Leicester and Derby the board are willing to cash in on their prime asset.

Our left-back position has been a problem for sometime and although Aaron Hughes fills in well, it is a waste of his talents. So Bridge would be a welcome addition to the squad if he eventually signs.

A word of warning though, the last left-back we beat Liverpool to sign was the unfortunate Carl Serrant.

Other transfer rumours doing the rounds include Owen Hargreaves arriving on Tyneside in the summer. This is based on an interview he has given saying that it is unusual for an England international to play outside the Premiership.

In the eyes of many journalists this means that us, Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool are beating down Bayern Munich's door to sign the Canadian / Welsh England international.

Don't expect to see Hargreaves in Black'n'White stripes in the near future.
