Georginio Wijnaldum: “It seems like a long time ago, because it was a long time ago!
“We have to fight hard and make more goals and chances.
“If we don’t start doing this we can’t win games.
“In the final third we know we have to create more because two goals in five games is not a lot.”
The Dutchman was happy to face up to a poor show at West Ham on Monday night and offer an explanation to fans.
Wijnaldum feels that while Newcastle are still looking for their first win, there was a dip in performance compared to previous games.
Looking back on the 2-0 loss, Wijnaldum said: “We didn’t start well in the first half and after it they got the early goal.
“After that we put ourselves in a better position but did not create a lot of chances.
“We created a few, but compared to previous games we know we need to create more. We didn’t score and from the first half that is the only thing we were disappointed about.
“The second half was not good overall.
“We began the second half by conceding a goal.
“After that we didn’t do enough to fix it.”
Wijnaldum is looking forward to a chance of putting things right on home soil, he said: “It’s a quick turnaround because we only played on Monday.
“We have to go back to the way we were playing.
“It was an off day. The good thing with the Premier League is that there are so many games.
“You can quickly show how good you are.”
