No Pompey bid for LuaLua

Pompey’s top scorer last season Svetoslav Todorov has been ruled out for the season and newspaper speculation has linked them with a number of forwards including LuaLua, but the Premiership newcomers insist there is no truth in the rumours.

Chief executive Peter Storrie told the club's official website: "It's pure speculation.

"I would imagine that after what happened to Svetoslav Todorov we will be linked to every available striker in the country.

"Our priorities rest very much with obtaining a left-sided defender and all our efforts are currently concentrating on that."

Perhaps with LuaLua well behind Shola Ameobi in the first team reckoning, Carl Cort returning to fitness and the African Cup of Nations ruling him out for up to six weeks of the season speculation about the DR Congo international's future is also inevitable.

Meanwhile Sir Bobby has dismissed speculation linking him with a bid for Real Madrid midfielder Steve McManaman.
