Matthias Jaissle takes responsibility as Newcastle slide towards bottom half

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has accepted personal responsibility after his side slipped to 13th in the Premier League table.

Monday night's 1-0 home defeat against Everton was greeted by loud boos at full-time, with Newcastle managing just two shots on target across 90 minutes.

The Magpies struggled to break through Everton's defensive block of James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite, with late second-half substitute Yoane Wissa failing to convert Newcastle's best opportunity.

The evening ended on a sour note when Jacob Ramsey received a second booking for a foul on Hayden Hackney during eight minutes of added time.

Addressing the mounting frustration among the St James' Park faithful, Jaissle admitted: "Big frustration, big disappointment. Of course, the fans, they get frustrated like we are.

"We need to analyse it now in detail. It is also clear that I have the responsibility, and I also take that as manager of this club.

"We need to do things better. The only way is togetherness, showing unity, and then the belief comes."

Newcastle must regroup quickly before Saturday's league visit to Craven Cottage, where they will take on Fulham without the suspended Ramsey.
