World Cup winner Newcastle bound?

The defensive midfielder looked set to sign for Leeds, but with Terry Venables not having the funds available to complete the deal the Sunday Express claims that Sir Bobby will hijack the deal.

The Athletico Paranaese star would cost around £4million, but may initially join on loan.

We’ll have to wait and see if there is any truth in the story but if he could have a similar impact to that of his international colleague Gilberto at Arsenal Kleberson would be a welcome addition.

Also linked today is Lazio left back Giuseppe Favalli, who may join on a free transfer at the end of the season.

An imposing figure who, unlike most full backs, realises that his primary task is to defend, Favalli is a player who would make a vast improvement to the team.

Tomasz Hajto of Schalke is another World Cup star to be linked with a move to Tynseside.

The Polish international defender, capped 46 times by his country, is believed to be available for £3million, however anyone who saw Poland’s efforts at defending during the World Cup may be slightly worried if he ever signs.
