Venables furious over Woody 'sale'

A statement on Leeds’ website last night read: "We can state categorically that we have not allowed Newcastle United permission to speak to Jonathan Woodgate because the clubs have not agreed a deal."

But Venables reaction suggested that Woodgate will be allowed to leave.

"I am beside myself with anger," said Venables.

"I will be seriously unhappy if he (Woodgate) goes, but I will do everything within my power, and more, to keep him."

Another hint was Matthew Upson’s admission that Leeds had contacted him about a possible move.
