Transfer rumour round-up

Last updated : 20 November 2003 By Martyn Elliott

Big rumour of the week is that Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen is on his way to St James’ Park in January, after his father was reported to have said the deal was all but complete. Don’t know if there is any truth in it, but it could only be a good thing.

Meanwhile, the club is reported to have pencilled in talks with Auxerre’s Olivier Kapo about a summer move and are apparently monitoring the progression Ternana youngster Luis Jimenez.

Cardiff City and Wales duo Danny Gabbidon and Robert Earnshaw continue to be linked with a move to Newcastle and every other club in the Premiership, while Portugal’s veteran centre half Fernando Couto has denied speculation linking him with us. It’s amazing how many players deny transfer stories before they’ve even appeared when they want to negotiate a new contract.

Nobby Solano has again been quoted in various foreign newspapers claiming that he may have to leave the club, while reserve-team skipper Bradley Orr has been linked with loan moves to both Wigan and Oldham.

Meanwhile, cash-strapped Roma have been linked with a big-money move for Craig Bellamy. Perhaps Fabio Capello is impressed by the Welshman’s ability to keep cool when provoked by Italian defenders!
