McClen linked with Pools move

New Pools boss Neale Cooper is keen to strengthen his squad following the club’s promotion last season and believes that McClen’s Premiership experience could be a great asset.

The possible move is at a very early stage though, as Cooper explained to the Hartlepool Mail: "There is a list of players we have here and his name is on it. We have not spoken to Jamie, we are just looking at our options at the moment."

The 24-year-old has made 22 first team appearances, scoring once in the 4-2 FA Cup win at Peterborough United, but has slipped out of the first team reckoning following the arrival of the likes of Jermaine Jenas, Hugo Viana and Lee Bowyer.

While a move to Victoria Park would present McClen with the opportunity to stay in the North East he has shown enough on his rare first team appearances to suggest that he has the ability to play at a level higher than Division Two.
