Latest transfer rumours

The Evening Chronicle report that a deal to bring Leeds United's injury-prone striker Michael Bridges to St James’ Park has been put on hold by Nikos Dabizas’ car crash. The Greece international was apparently on his way to Elland Road as part of a swap deal, with Bridges keen to leave after the arrival of former Sunderland boss Peter Reid.

The Mirror claim that a deal to sign Stephen Carr from Spurs will be completed in the next few days, with a straight cash payment agreed rather than the mooted player swap.

The latest news on the Ronaldinho situation is that Real Madrid are confident of signing the Brazil international, although they will pull out of the deal to allow Manchester United to sign him as long as the Old Trafford club lower the asking price for David Beckham to £15million.

Reported transfer target Darren Bent has signed a new three-year deal at Ipswich Town, which should end all the speculation regarding his future.

Porto midfielder Deco, who was apparently interesting Sir Bobby, has said that he would prefer to move to Italy or Spain rather than join a Premiership club.

Meanwhile Benfica winger Miguel is also reported to be attracting the interest of Newcastle’s scouts.
