The deal will reportedly happen in January with John Karelse on his way to Edinburgh and former Carlisle gloveman, Tony Caig coming to St James’ as deputy to Shay Given and Steve Harper.
Karelse is out of contract at the end of the season and Sir Bobby has not offered him a new deal.
The Dutchman was Ruud Gullit’s final signing and has been far from a success, but unlike many of Gullit’s other flops Karelse has worked hard and shown commitment to the club – so we wish him well for the future.
