Hammer time for full back

The Hammers caretaker boss Trevor Brooking has made a new left back his number one priority in the wake of Rufus Brevett’s injury and is keen to sign either Robbie Elliott or Wayne Quinn on loan.

Brooking told West Ham’s official website: "The Newcastle pair, Robbie Elliott and Wayne Quinn, I think we need because of Rufus' injury and the importance of getting a left back in.

"I am sure we will try and get one of those in before Saturday, quite frankly. It's an either-or with the two Newcastle lads and I think we'll end up with one of them."

Of course the irony of the situation is that if we’d let Olivier Bernard go to Upton Park at the start of last season neither club would be in their current left back situation.
