Ambrose loan move blocked

The winger’s former club are apparently one of several Nationwide League clubs interested in taking him on a short-term deal, only to be told that Sir Bobby is concerned about his fitness.

Town chairman David Sheepshanks confirmed: "We approached Newcastle about taking Darren on loan but they said no.

"I know a number of other clubs have also asked about the possibility of taking him, but Newcastle are still worried about his long-term fitness.

"Nothing will happen in the immediate future, but we have not completely given up hope. You just never know.

"The move may happen later this season if Joe Royle still wants to bring him back."

Ambrose has struggled for fitness ever since arriving at St James’ Park but with Nobby Solano seemingly in Sir Bobby’s bad books over his decision to return to action with Peru there is every chance the youngster will get his first team chance soon.
