Michael Turner came closest for Hull as his second-half header was controversially adjudged not to have crossed the line, substitute Jonas Gutierrez was the visitors' main threat but still he couldn't prevent a replay.

The home side then thought they'd taken the lead as a Dean Marney corner was met by the head of Turner, whose effort saw the ball hit the frame of the goal and bounce down into the arms of Given, the home side protested the ball had gone over the line but the assistant referee ruled in favour of the Magpies.
Marney had a great chance to nick the game for Hull at the end as Sam Ricketts found him unmarked in the box with a neat cross from the right, but the Tigers midfielder could only send his header well wide of the post.
